Obtain the Promise

Hi ya’ll!  I want to call your attention to Sara in the bible.  She is one of only two women specifically  named in Hebrews chapter 11, commonly called the Hall of Faith.  Hopefully you know the story of Abraham and Sara.  They were past the childbearing age and had no natural children.  When God told Sara she would conceive and have a son she laughed.  Then she tried to make it happen in her own strength and her own time.  So Ishmael was born by her servant. It was 24 years after God promised Abraham that Sara gave birth to her son Isaac. Abraham and Sara  both are recorded in the hall of faith.  Even with all her misses, Sara received recognition for her faith and trust in God.  This verse in Hebrews is packed full of wonderful things and gives insight as how Sara was successful.

Hebrews 11:11 KJV Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Number one Sara received strength to conceive.  She received from God, he enabled her, he sustained her, he gave to her strength.  What is strength? The ability to exert effort for the accomplishment of a task.  It is force, it is might, muscle and power.  It is vigor and effectiveness. Strength is the ability to withstand stress without being damaged and it is toughness.  Sara received vigor and effectiveness she was given ability to accomplish what God promised.  Number two Sara received strength to conceive seed. The word conceive does not just apply to a pregnancy or  baby.  It means to cause to begin, to dream, envision, picture, invent, plan, manufacture. . Sara was given by God the ability, she was equipped to begin to dream to envision, to plan.  Don’t overlook the important part Sara had.  God did supernaturally give her strength to do what she had never been able to do before. But Sara judged him faithful.  Notice that in the last part of verse 11…. because she judged him faithful who had promised.  All of the hero’s of faith in Hebrews 11 obtained what God had promised.

Hebrews 11:33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions………

Friend I want to tell you that God is full of promises.  He has promises for each one of us. We have to believe him and trust him.  When I first began to hear some of his promises or plans  for me, I thought there is no way. Just like Sara might have imagined. But yet, God made a way.  He did for me and he still continues to.  I have to remind myself that it is not up to me to make it happen.  He is capable.  He has strengthened me and equipped me beyond my knowledge and skill set to accomplish it.  And he continues to.  God has promises and plans and dreams for you.  He has equipped you to conceive or literally be pregnant with those promises.  Allow yourself to dream to conceive what God  has planned for you.   He will not fail you.  Only we can drop the ball and miscarry what he was trying to birth in us and through us.  I speak from experience.  I had to STOP making excuses.  I used everyone in the book.  When I did God began to make into something that I never could had imagined for myself.  He is such a good father.

Think about this for a minute.  All of God’s promises are eternal. They never end because we die.  So every time someone receives salvation.  A new child is adopted into the family of God. But also Sara and Abraham just received one more descendant.  Each new salvation is one more kid for Sara and Abraham to add to their family.  God’s promise to them just keeps going and going like the energizer bunny. He promised them more descendants than there were stars or sand.  His promises are forever.  The rainbow did not last just for Noah’s generation.  It’s still here as a reminder of God’s promise.

So I encourage you to obtain the promise that God has for you.  Remember to count God faithful.  You are a Promise you are a Possibility, you are a great big bundle of Potentially.  I leave you with this saying by Smith Wigglesworth. ‘There is nothing impossible with God. All the impossibility is with us when we measure God by the limitations of our unbelief.”  – Smith Wigglesworth
