Rise and Shine

Hi ya’ll.  I want to talk about Fireflies for a minute.  Does the mention of that word bring back fun childhood memories for you?  It does for me.  I remember warm summer nights with a glass jar.  I was running bare foot in the yard trying to catch some fireflies to put in my jar. Fireflies talk to each by light.  Firefly lights are the most efficient lights in the world.  One hundred percent of the energy is emitted as light. In contrast an incandescent light bulb, emits 10% of its energy as light and the rest as heat,  and the fluorescent light bulb,  emits 90% of its energy as light.  Adult fireflies aren’t the only ones that glow.  In some species the larvae, and even the eggs emit light.  It would be safe to say that for a fire fly their life is centered around light.  I want to remind you that as a Christian your life should also be centered on light.  In Acts 9 we read how Saul (Paul)l meets Jesus in a blinding light.  His whole life changes from that moment on.  In Acts 9:15 God says, Paul (Saul) is a chosen instrument of mine.  I want to tell you, brother and sister in the Lord,  every Christian is a chosen instrument. God has chosen you to be a light in this world. The definition of light = something that makes vision possible, spiritual illumination.  Think about that for just a minute. This is SO powerful.  I am a christian, and I am light.  Therefore that light in me makes vision possible to others.  Vision of what? Vision of the Father God, of salvation from death, redemption from the curse of the law. Vision that there is a better way, a higher calling and a purpose for each one of us.  Vision that there is peace and joy and wholeness in Him.  If you think about it there are so many uses for light. For example, a Police Officer can shine a light into a dark car or alley.  They want to SEE if there is danger, or someone needing help or doing something wrong. Use your light to see if there is someone in your life that needs help.  Are they in danger of dying and going to Hell? Another example is night fishing.  A fisherman will go out at night and put lights down in the water off the side of his boat.  The smaller fish are attracted to the light and come, then the big fish come out to eat the little ones.  It makes it ideal for the fisherman to catch a “big one”.  So the light draws the fish to it.  Exactly what you and I are to do, as instruments of His light.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.- Martin Luther King, Jr.
We are lit from the inside out.  We are to be light in a dark place.  The light of God always changes things.  Step into the light.  Rise and Shine!
