The Machine Gun

Hi ya’ll.  I started blogging because of my children book series, The Missionary Dog.  That expanded into me becoming the character Sergeant Sarah, who works along with the missionary dogs in the Lord’s Army.  If you are a Christian, you also are in the Lord’s Army.  I can’t seem to get away from military comparisons.  The thought of being a solider in His army, on a specific team, with my own mission or orders to carry out.  This makes me think hard about what I am doing or what I may not be doing.   This makes me want to take action.  I want to beat my enemy, the devil and I want to help my troop and fellow solider.   I was reading this passage from Ephesians in the Bible, but in the Message translation, and I have to share it with you.  It reads just like  I imagine battle orders from our Chief would sound.  Ephesians 6: 13-18 (MSG)  Be prepared.   You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own.  Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet.  Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words.  Learn how to apply them.  You’ll need them throughout your life.  God’s word is an indispensable weapon.  In the same way, prayer is essential in the ongoing warfare.  Pray hard and long.  Pray for your bothers and sisters.  Keep your eyes open.  Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.    This says we have any enemy and are at war, but we have been gifted  by God with a weapon.   Of course the Bible and prayer are our weapons.  Personally when I think of weapons I think about  a machine gun.  To be specific  the M249 automatic weapon.   I did a little research on a M249.  This weapon  can fire up to 120 rounds per minute of 5.56 mm bullets, laying a blanket of bullets in a battle. The magazine can hold 200 rounds.  The M249 has an effective shooting range of 1,000 meters.   I think it’s safe to say that this is one powerful weapon.   I can picture my mouth is like a machine gun and the words of God coming out of it are bullets.  Imagine the devil whispering in your ear, or sneaking up on you with evil and you open your mouth and blast him full of hot, flying bullets. To be specific you start quoting scriptures at him.   God’s word is an indispensable weapon.   Indispensable means:  absolutely necessary, essential, not subject to being set aside or neglected.  Certainly the Word of God, The Holy Bible, is necessary, essential and should  NOT be set aside or neglected.  I encourage you to use your machine gun on the enemy. Remember  he is a defeated foe.  Blast that devil full of holes.   Yell at him as he runs away, Run, Devil, Run, Devil, Run!!!  You’ll be so happy then you can sing along with this song by Dave Crowder………
